From 1994 until 2008, when he sold the company to his two sons, John Ray was the principle of Ewing and Ray Foundation Services, Inc., and now he serves as the Senior Project Manager. During his time with the company, John reviewed over 3,500 buildings with foundation and/or structural or drainage problems and personally designed and implemented over 1,200 projects.
John graduated from Mississippi State University in 1966 with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Industrial Engineering Technology. While serving 29 honorable years in the U.S. Army he held increasing challenging assignments as an Engineer Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve, he was the Emergency Plans and Liaison Officer for the State of Mississippi to the First U.S. Army securing, mobilizing and directing military resources during national disasters. John was also the G-4 Staff Officer for the 87th Division, Hoover, AL, and was responsible for Logistics, Engineering and Facilities Procurement for attached units of the 87th Division at 7 active military posts. His team coordinated with the Corp of Engineers and managed funding and construction of a seven million dollar Battle Simulation Center and 9 other facilities improvements and on 7 military bases. With FOSCOM he worked as the Engineer Plans Officer, Ft. Gillem, GA. He was the Commander of the 2nd Maneuver Command, Jackson, MS and was responsible for the annual training evaluations of over 10,000 soldiers each year. He was the Division Chief over Engineering, Artillery, Armor and Infantry Evaluation Teams for technical evaluations. While serving in Vietnam with the 11th Infantry Brigade, he was a Combined Action Platoon Leader and commanded both Vietnamese and U.S. Soldiers.
John was the General Manager for Hughes Aircraft Mississippi and Operations Manager for Teledyne Brown Engineering and was a Manager for Engineering Departments at 7 large manufacturing companies with 4 projects exceeding seven million dollars. John’s broad field of experience in construction, facilities modifications, equipment purchases and startups, and production expansions has allowed him to successfully plan and implement all size projects. As engineering and operations manager for several large manufacturing companies, he expanded 14 facilities and implemented renovations and resource planning to maximize profits and capabilities.
In addition to his degree in Industrial Engineering Technology, John completed the Engineering Basics courses in Military Engineering, Advanced Engineering Course, Disaster Recovery and Emergency Plans Course, and the Command and General Staff College, all offered through the U.S. Army. John has been a project manager for 4 new construction projects that exceeded seven million dollars. He has also been a project engineer for 15 years and received a great deal of hands on experience with new construction, facilities modifications, equipment purchases and startups, and production expansions with little or no supervision.
